Competing in the ICCR Junior Mini Challenge Championship

Updated: Oct 17

For the past two years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to race in the Junior MINI Challenge Championship, and I can honestly say it’s been one of the best experiences of my life.

When I first joined, I didn’t quite know what to expect — other than trying to drive a Minin around the track as fast as I could. What I found was something much more: a professional-like championship with top-class cars, tough competition, and a brilliant community of young drivers all pushing each other to be better.

Year one was a real learning curve. With about 16 drivers on the grid, I started at the back, trying to get to grips with the car, the tracks, and the pace. The competition was high, and every race felt like a lesson in skill, patience, and determination. Main lesson learnt - Seat Time, Seat Time, Seat Time! It's all about that seat time and getting the practice in. With practice comes confidence and skill levels improve.

Year two has been even more challenging, with 22 drivers, many of them championship winners, all incredibly talented and determined. I’m proud to say that I’ve been finishing consistently in the top 10 this season — a huge step forward from where I started. The improvement didn’t come easy — it took hours of practice, tuition with Harry McGovern, data analysis, and teamwork. But the reward of seeing that hard work pay off has been unreal. I'd recommend getting a driving coach if your funds allow, it's been a game changer for me. Harry McGovern gave me confidence at the start, a reaffirmation that what i was doing was good but to do it with conviction, don't hold back, racing has no space for politeness. After that came the race craft, learning how to force others to concentrate on me rather than their own racing lines and force errors was fun, the most fun fun i had in the car in fact! Then came data analysis. Put it all together and it's given me what i need to move forward.

One of the best parts of the championship has been the friendships I’ve made along the way. The paddock is full of people who share the same passion for racing, and even though we’re competitors on track, off it there’s a real sense of respect and camaraderie.

I also want to give a huge thank you to my sponsors — I couldn’t do this without your support. And, of course, my dad, who runs the car, built it, transports it and helps with everything behind the scenes. Your dedication makes it all possible.

Looking back on these two seasons, I can say without hesitation that the ICCR Junior MINI Challenge has been a brilliant experience — one that’s taught me so much, both as a driver and as a person. The competition is fierce, the standard is high, and the thrill of racing at this level is something I’ll never forget. Couldn't have chosen a better class to start my motorsport career.

Moving forward into 2026 I will be transferring from a Junior race licence to a senior - going to play with the big boys! So here’s to what comes next — and to chasing even more success in the seasons ahead!
